Wild Child is a story of Poppy Moore a spoiled brat Malibu barbie sent to England boarding school. She misbehaves by thrashing out her dad's girlfriend stuff, she landed on a country side boarding school. Her roomates help her to carry out a plan to get expelled until she realized that her new found friends made a reason to stay.Recommendation: For me this movie is made for teen audience (12-16). I mean with the title I expected it to be wild but it came out just mild - "Mild Child".

Slumdog Millionaire bagged 8 Oscars!
As much as I want to share my summer trip in Coron Palawan I don't want to miss writing an entry about the recent Oscars. It happened that the awards night was last 22nd and I was so far away from TV . I got the news when my sister texted me that Slumdog Millionaire won 8 Oscars! I am so very happy for the people who made the movie and so glad when I found out that the younger versions of Jamal, Latika and Salim made it to the red carpet! They're really adorable kids and made significant impact on the film. As I've mentioned on my previous post, Slumdog Millionaire is on my top list of favorite movies, it outranked Gladiator and Legends of the Fall.

25 random things about me
This has been circulating in blogosphere for a while now and I'm enjoying reading their version of "25 random things about me" even if I don't know them. So, I decided to write my own too.
Here are the 25 giveaways to know me.
1. I don't know how to bike.
2. I don't like pineapple in my pizza, meaning no hawaiian pizza for me. I prefer all-meat or with olives, bell pepper but please no pineapple.
3. I learned how to swim because my father left me in the part were I cannot reach the bottom, the depth was thrice my height. I realized that he was right after I reached the shore - survival instinct made me learn how to swim.
4. When I was a kid I would prefer playing outside rather than sleeping after lunch . Now I know that sleeping is vital in growing up and that's one reason why I am as tall as the current president of our country.
5. I was part of a band in high school. Oh not the singing band but the band where you play the national anthem and the likes during school program even in our town fiesta.
6. Learning karate has an advantage, I once applied it to my bully classmate from then on, no one bullies me. I was an active karateka once, it lasted for 3 years but I did not pursue that sport. I like pingpong better, but my first love sport was tennis.
7. I am afraid of dolls. They're creepy especially the plastics with those eyes look so real, eyelids are moving and some of them are battery operated to talk! They're scary! Paper dolls were okay especially the custom made paper dolls.
8. I still want to study/work abroad, if only for a short while. Even if just a short course..
9. I'm afraid of frogs.
10. I was an active member of girl scouts since grade 1 until I graduated high school. I received gold medal award together with my 3 classmates in high school for civic work which gives us an opportunity to be exempted in C.A.T. but I still took that subject just for a taste of somewhat army training. I like being in girl scout better. I don't want people bossing me around!
11. I never never tried any illegal drugs in my life and so does sex. Believe it or not but that's the truth.
12. I like sports and would love to learn a new sport and its odd that I hate PE way back in college. I don't know, I am not good in math either but PE was the least favorite subject.
13. My frustrations include growing dumb, growing alone and failing. I'm struggling how to gain back the focus every time I fail and it takes time to get over it.
14. I dig sad themed movies, vengeance, environmental awareness, political motivated, witch/magic and cartoons. Recently Slumdog Millionaire has become the number 1 on my list and that is not on the list of movie themes that I mentioned previously - I call it an exception.
15. I don't eat apples but I drink apple juice.
16. My favorite subject when I was in elementary was HeKaSi.
17. Our house collapsed last 1990 earthquake.
18. Way back in high school most of my classmates dreamt of becoming a doctor, lawyer, nurse or teacher. I dreamt to become a marine biologist after I seen the movie Flipper. My second choice was veterinary medicine but look at me now I landed in an IT field.Go figure.
19. I want to learn Japanese.
20. I forgive but I don't forget. I give second chances or even third but still I don't forget. I am not a fan of promises.
21. I have hard time sleeping without a mosquito net.
22. I am better in one on one talk rather than in a group conversation.
24. I love to draw. I'll scan some of my works for you to see.
25. If I were a boy my parents would name me Emilio, after my grandfather. Lucky me I am a girl so it became Emilie.

Review: Slumdog Millionaire
I didn't know that this movie was a hit in other side of the glob. This movie caught my attention for the awards they earned in Golden Globe. I hurriedly search for news articles and review, from then I knew that this movie is intesting. I've learned from the news last week that this has won Best Director and Best Film in BAFTA. This movie is really making it's record. I've seen this twice last week but I finally decided to write my review today. Here's what I think:
Story: A. The story uncovers in a stop-start manner that kills the suspense, it's like you're anticipating what gonna happen next and then it will bring you back to the present time. Most of it were in flashbacks, the plot begins where Jamal is beeing interogated for cheating in the Indian version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire as why does a slumdog knew the answers. As the story progresses the protagonist tells his life story which coincedentally had something to do with the questions that's why he knew it by heart, except for 10m and 20m rupees which are truly a luck - and that's for you to find out. I like it how they put the "love story" within a story - a modern day fairy tale.
Casting: A-. The actors were just right for the roles but I wish they should've find an actor for Salim that has a resemblance to Jamal - afterall they're brothers. I've read that child actors for the role of Salim and Latika were from the slums of Mumbai - they're real.
Setting: A+ . Filmakers traveled to India to shoot, some of it where shot in Mumbai and in nearby suburbs. On one portion where Jamal work as a tea/cofee server (chai wallah), I noticed that the call center has a huge number of head count, workstations were a bit crowded, they're on VOIP and interior design made you feel you're in London - intersections has street labels, a huge picture of Big Ben, House of Parliament, London Eye and others that made the agents feel like they're in London. I wish that they do the same here in our office, US street and huge pictures of the Capitol, White House, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Hollywood and Grand Canyon perhaps :p.
Acting: A+ . I find the youngest Jamal cute and charming, his ability to act is natural and it made a significant impact on the film. Actually the 3 kids did great but the little Jamal is superb especially on the "toilet" scene - it was the cutest and grossest! The rest were just fine.
Visual Effects: A . Since this is a location-shooting-film, digital enhancement is not badly needed. Lighting, costume and make up were ok, nothing grand needed.
Movie score/Soundtrack: A . I don't understand about 95% of the songs but some part of chorus are in english. Melody and tempo was put on the movie just right to convey emotions.
Others: No kids allowed for this movie due to some violence, disturbing images and language.
On the last part right before the credits, the cast had a typical Bollywood dance. I was surprised to see that Jamal Malik is a good dancer.
Final review/recommendation: I am a fan of this movie. I'll keep it simple - this is a must see! I gave it A or 5 stars!

HP Poster
haWe were told that Harry Potter and the Halfblood Pince movie would be making it's way last Fall but that did not happen. Instead they moved it this summer. Hopefully this would be ago on July 19, 2009. The past 2 movies(Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix) weren't that great but still I am a Harry Potter fan and would love to see the version in motion picture. A new poster has arrived!
You can see the rest of the posters mugglenet, the ultimate harry potter fan site. You can check IMDB as well for movie stills.

Review: Inkheart
The wait is over, I saw this movie yesterday - alone. I thought this was supposed to be shown summer of last year, I've seen the trailer on the last quarter of 2007. This was on my awaited-movie-list of 2008.Just a little FYI about the book. This is the first book of the Inkworld trilogy by the German author Cornelia Funke. The book was not new to me, I was encouraged to read by Jen L. my then officemate in PSE who moved now to MRS.
So now here's what I think about the movie.
Story:A. I love fantasy and adventure themed movies especially if it is an adaptation from a book even if it is pre-teen or young adult book I can truly relate to it. Inkheart is a fantasy happened in a present world. It take someone to have a gift to read the book aloud to make the characters come to life
Casting: A+. I am not really a fan of Brendan Fraser but I must admit the role was just right for him somehow he's been attached to this type of movie. Other casts include Helen Mirren, Paul Bettany and Andy Serkis. They're all good.
Setting: B+. I only like the part in Elinor's(Mirren) Manor fronting the river in Italy with a huge collection of books. I want to live in a house like that, if not just a few days :p. The rest were just okay for me not too great not too bad just a-ok.
Acting: A. You'll gonna love Paul Bettany as Dustfinger he's somewhat a good guy and at the same time a traitor. Helen Mirren is a loudmouth aunt. Fraser is a goody-goody father and Andy Serkis as Capricorn - the villain.
Visual Effects: B. Special effects are nice and neat. I gave B because most of the time it is not really required on this movie because most scenes are on location
Final review/recommendation:
This is a great movie for the whole family, you can bring your kids along with you and I'm sure they'll gonna love this. If you are planning to watch this alone and if you dig this kind of movie so you'll gonna love it as much as I do. If you are planning to watch this together with your partner(bf/gf) just make sure that you both like this type of movie so the both of you will gonna enjoy.
I haven't read the book yet so I cannot say if they cut short or if they altered too much. I'll let you know once I finished reading the book.
